There’s a festival atmosphere in town tonight, as carbo-loading marathoners get psyched for the Big Day. I’m in a motel room with my ice chest and the yellow pages, mulling over my dinner options.
- Electrolyte drink that tastes like watered down koolaid? Blech.
- Gummy pasta with little nutritional value beyond the carbs I want to load for the race? Possible (and I’ve done it before) but not exactly appetizing.
- The greasy sausage pizza that the folks in the next room are enjoying? Not if I don’t want to see that sausage again around mile seven. Sadly, I speak from experience.
So, of course, I pull out the trusty ole’ Mojamix (this is getting to be a habit). Runner’s Fuel, with walnuts, hazelnuts, apple, raisins, flax seeds and all the carbs I want in whole grain form? Win. Still, it would be nice to have something warm in my belly… so I mix it with some goat’s milk (my fave), pop it in the microwave for a minute, and voila! I’m enjoying a hot, delicious, foundation for an awesome run.
Tomorrow’s going to be a good day. Eat my dust, pizza boy.
